Clinical Innovations Receives CE Mark for SoftLift® Laparotomy Vacuum Manipulator Salt Lake City, UT, August 27, 2007 – Clinical Innovations, LLC, a division of ACI Medical Devices, Inc., announced today that it has received the CE Mark for its SoftLift® device, a disposable, vacuum-activated manipulator for use in laparotomy, mini-lap and transvaginal procedures. Designed to minimize trauma, improve visualization and shorten procedure times, the SoftLift utilizes a small, malleable vacuum cup to grasp, retract, and manipulate abdominal organs and tissues during surgery. “The SoftLift helps surgeons complete their procedures more quickly, while reducing trauma to the patient,” said Ross McQuivey, MD, Medical irector for Clinical Innovations. “Consequently, OR times are reduced and patient stays are shorter.” The SoftLift generates a safe and effective vacuum system by means of its patented, ergonomic PalmPumpTM, the same as is used in the industry-leading Kiwi® Vacuum Delivery System. The PalmPump’s integral design provides a simple hand vacuum pump, finger-activated vacuum release, and a vacuum indicator gauge. The SoftLift’s soft, malleable vacuum cup has a low profile and is easily inserted into small incisions and narrow cavities. When applied to tissue, the cup spreads the attachment force over a widely distributed area, resulting in less traumatic forces than linear instruments such as traumatic forceps and clamps. In addition, the vacuum cup has elevated internal ridges to prevent the cup from sliding, or “skating”, across tissues. “A unique benefit the SoftLift provides is the ability to aspirate fluid through the vacuum cup’s soft, malleable material,” stated Neal Lonky, MD, MPH, Clinical Professor of OBGYN at University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. “Without compromising vacuum quality or risking leakage, a surgeon can reduce the size of a cyst and bring it through a smaller incision.” The SoftLift is available through Clinical Innovations’ independent distributors.
